Principal’s Paragraph

Dear Greenfield parents,

As a parent I know how fun this time of year is with watching Christmas movies and surprising my kids with special gifts. As I was watching Christmas movies this year and shopping for different gifts I discovered two very alarming things, the new movie Dear Santa (2024) and the Lego Bible, The Complete Brick Bible for Kids

In Proverbs 4:23, we are instructed to “guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” It is so important that we protect the hearts and minds of our children by carefully evaluating what they watch and read. Entertainment is never “neutral.”

The movie, Dear Santa (2024) is about a boy (Liam) who is dyslexic and accidentally sends a letter to Satan instead of Santa. Here are some of the things that are alarming:

  • [Liam] says that meeting Satan may have been the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
  • Satan tells Liam that after he uses all three wishes, he’ll obtain Liam’s soul. And when Liam eventually dies, he’ll spend eternity in hell.
  • [Liam] finds that Satan has brought his brother back from the dead.
  • [Satan] makes a joke about trusted relatives sexually abusing children.
  • Satan admits to having sex with a dog.
  • God’s name is used in vain more than 20 times.
  • Liam’s parents argue with one another and make verbal jabs to hurt each other. Satan describes himself as pro-divorce.
  • Satan morphs a Christmas tree angel topper to have his face on it—implying that he’s been acting as their guardian angel.
  • There is much more disturbing content in this movie that can be read in the full review, Plugged In’s analysis

The Complete Brick Bible for Kids Concerns:

  • The author is a transgender artist and self-professed atheist.
  • The author portrays Yahweh as: “Power-mad, belligerent, masochistic, petty, woefully insecure, extremely dangerous and unpredictable (and seemingly not too bright) Yahweh exhibits all the worst attributes of man.”
  • The author selected and focused on portions of the Bible that are not appropriate for children.
    • Although the Bible does not hide the graphic scenes of history, there is merit to shielding children until they are at an age where they can properly digest the consequences of the depravity of sin. Just a few of the illustrations and stories in this children’s book include:
  • A naked Adam and Eve with their bottom parts together
  • Noah as he lay naked in his tent
  • Samuel “hacking” a king into pieces
  • Angry angels snatching terrified Lego women
  • A man thrusting a spear through a man and into a woman
  • Amnon and the rape of his sister
  • Graphic killing scenes with Lego blood and gore
  • One scene read, “Anyone who would not seek Yahweh would be executed.” The scene includes men tied down ready to be beheaded.

*Helpful Conversation Guide*: If your child asks why they cannot watch this movie or read this Bible, use it as an opportunity to biblically guide your child, always pointing them back to the good news of Christ’s coming.

*Guiding Scriptures*: Romans 12:1-2 (do not conform to this world), Psalm 101:3 (avoid worthless content), Philippians 4:8 (view content that uplifts and aligns with godly values), Matthew 6:22-23 (what we take in through our eyes influences), Proverbs 4:23 (protecting what influences us), 2 Corinthians 10:5 (take our thoughts captive), 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (discernment in consumption and rejecting evil).

As your school principal and the calling that God has placed in my life to prepare this next generation to impact the world for Christ, my desire is to partner with you in nurturing children who are firmly rooted in truth. May this Advent season be filled with joy, hope, and the peace that comes from focusing on our Savior.

Impacting the world for Christ,
