Bible
This course for sixth-grade students features inductive Bible study methods. Students will learn to apply these biblical lessons to their lives as they learn to be courageous within the framework of the character and leadership program: The Protectors Freedom from Bullying: Courage, Character, and Leadership for Life.
English
This course uses the Shurley English curriculum and promotes student literacy through a logical, sequential, and systematic review and practice of grammar, reading, vocabulary, and writing. Analytical thinking is encouraged and practiced through both independent and group literature studies, as well as targeted comprehension strategies through the Mosdos Pearl curriculum. Writing focuses on narrative, informative, descriptive, and argument, which enable students to build skills in order to be successful in middle school and high school.
Math
Math is required each year of middle school. Placement tests and teacher recommendations will be used to place students at appropriate levels.
This course uses Carnegie Learning Math Solution to implement our math curriculum. The Carnegie Learning instructional resources were developed using both a scientific understanding of how people learn and a real-world understanding of how to apply that science to mathematics instructional materials. The Carnegie Learning Math Solution includes two elements: a consumable textbook and the MATHia software. These work in concert to take into account the variety of ways in which students learn and leverage different strategies students need to learn math. In this course, you will connect ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division, extend your understanding of number and operation to the system of rational numbers, use expressions and equations to solve problems, and develop an understanding of statistical thinking.
Science
Science 6 reveals the incredible intricacies of cells and organisms, matter and energy, astronomy, heredity, the nervous system, and the immune system through exciting, but manageable science experiments and science projects taught from a Christian worldview.
History
This course uses Heritage Studies, a Christian curriculum by Bob Jones. This course is an introduction to world civilizations. Students study the geography, culture, government, archaeology, religion, and history of ancient peoples from Mesopotamia through the Middle Ages.
Fine Arts
Strings or Choir is required in Grades 6- 8th at the Agritopia campus. Band or Choir is required in Grades 6- 8th at the Greenfield and Val Vista campus.
