High School 03.07.2025

From our Principal

Dear GCHS Parents,

I am excited to announce a unique opportunity our students will have when we come back from Spring Break. Our Bible teacher, Mr. Burgett, has a colleague who is a missionary to Mormons, and he will be joining us on campus when we return. Read more below:

“From March 25-27, Bradley Campbell will be on campus and in select Bible classes to talk to our students about Mormonism. Given the high concentration of Latter-day Saints in the Gilbert area, this is an incredible opportunity for our students to learn and ask questions about the LDS, their beliefs, and how to interact with them on matters of faith.

Bradley is a Research Associate with the Mormonism Research Ministry. He and his wife Marisa both grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. Bradley graduated from The Moody Bible Institute in 2017 with a degree in Church Planting, and moved out to South Jordan, Utah as a Pastoral Resident at a local church. That residency initially introduced him both to Mormonism and the ministry in Utah. Bradley quickly developed a yearning to see the Gospel spread in what he learned was the least Christian state in the U.S.

Bradley and Marisa were married in 2018, and officially settled in Utah. They have two children, Daniel and Chloe, and are members of Crossroads Church in Sandy, Utah. Bradley currently runs God Loves Mormons, an online video ministry aimed at sharing the Gospel of grace with Latter-day Saints. He’s also involved in weekly street evangelism efforts and is working towards his MDiv at Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary in Owensboro, Kentucky.”

GCHS Senior Students are invited to a special night of worship & testimonies in Mrs. Garza’s backyard. Bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. Save the date: April 5th @ 6pm. The address will be emailed out prior to the event.

BUILDING FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS

Did you know that we launched an Entrepreneurship Program at the high school this year? Currently, Mrs. Garza, Mr. Pasquariello, and Mr. Nemec are attending the Entrepreneurship Symposium in Cincinnati in order to grow in their effectiveness as they continue to build this program at the high school.

EASTER ITEMS

Our Lumina Groups will be working to put together Easter Baskets for children at Sunshine Acres this spring. We are encouraging a friendly competition between small groups to bring in the items needed. During chapel on March 5th & March 26th, students are invited to bring in white lunch bags, paper grass, and candy. Please make sure these items are labeled with the small group leader’s name. Please no chocolate, as it melts.

Upcoming Standardized Testing: April 22nd for 9th and 10th Graders

Annually GCHS administers standardized tests to our students. There are two primary purposes for administering nationally normed, standardized tests. First, they give our students experience with a standardized test that is aligned with college preparatory standards/expectations and provide students and parents an opportunity to accurately gauge a student’s achievement level overall and by subject area. Second, the tests provide valuable information for GCS in terms of evaluating our curricular program and informing areas of strength and areas for improvement.

Students in Grade 9 will participate in the NWEA MAP Growth assessment during Periods 1-4. The MAP Growth will include three subtests (Language Usage, Mathematics,&  Reading) and is administered using Chromebooks. There is no preparation necessary.

Students in Grade 10 will sit for the PreACT Secure®, a precursor to the ACT that the majority of our students will take for college admission purposes in their junior and/or senior year. This test includes subsections in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. PreACT Secure offers sophomores an early experience with ACT test items, provides a predicted ACT test score, and offers a wealth of information to help students get the start they need to be college ready. PreACT Secure practice tests can be found at TestNav by clicking on the “Practice Tests” link at the bottom of the sign-in screen.

SAFETY

Please drive cautiously when entering campus, especially by maintaining a safe speed. Due to ongoing construction, there are many blind spots, heavy machinery, and workers present. Slowing down will help prevent accidents and ensure everyone’s safety.

A NOTE FROM OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT

Congratulations to the GCHS boys basketball team for an excellent year. The Knights finished 20-2 overall, winning the 3A Metro Region, and placing second at the 2025 AIA State Championship Tournament. In the title game (RECAP), senior Logan Lucero dished a pair of assists, crowning him as the all-time single-season assist leader at GCHS, with 146. The previous record (144), was set in 2012-13 by Roberto Reyes.

Two spring athletes also broke school records last week. Junior Bennett Juve jumped 21’4” in the first track meet of the season to etch his name in the long jump history books, while senior Addison Bisceglie flew around the track to become the fastest GCHS girl to run the 3200m (11:15). Wow!

Our golf team is off to a strong start, winning its first tournament of the season behind a first-place, 1 under par 34 finish from junior Callaway Conkright! Way to go, Knights!

Beach volleyball is 4-0 in its 2025 campaign, having defeated Cicero Prep, AZ College Prep, Crismon, and Combs to open the year. In the team’s 5-0 victory over Crismon, freshman Kendall Moore served 21-straight points to give her squad a quick 21-0 victory. Only two other players in the history of the program have accomplished this remarkable feat!

Tonight is the boys volleyball home opener. Catch the JV team in action at 3:30/4:30pm and stay for the varsity match-up against Seton Catholic at 5:30pm!

For recaps, schedules, rosters, and all things Knights, be sure to check out the official website of GCS Athletics, gcsknights.com.

College & Career

The Senior Form has been sent to every senior student via school email.  This mandatory form includes very important information that will be used for Baccalaureate, Graduation, GCHS media, and more. Please encourage seniors to fill out the form as soon as they are able.  Forms are due no later than April 4, 2025.

UCYC and Montlure Camp are both hiring for summer camp staff (students aged 16 and up).  Working at a summer camp is a great way to spread the love of Jesus with campers and get out of the heat!

These workshops are geared towards prospective high school students who would like to check out their programs and gain some hands-on experience in the digital media arts.
