From our Principal
I was chatting with a staff member last week about the power of testimonies, and the necessity for each believer to be able to articulate the Gospel and what the Gospel has accomplished in their life. During our conversation, the Holy Spirit brought to mind one of my favorite passages, 1 Peter 3:8-17 which states:
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For
“Whoever desires to love life
and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from speaking deceit;
let him turn away from evil and do good;
let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.
As we draw close to Holy Week I want to encourage you to take a few moments to write out your testimony, and the Gospel in your own words. Take some time to reflect on the power it has had in your life. The Gospel is something we never graduate or move away from as we grow in our walk with Christ. It is something we must come back to every single day. As I journey through the Bible chronologically this year, I am constantly going back to the Gospel to remind myself that all of this sin depicted in scripture, and all of my sin now has been paid for, what a remarkable thing to celebrate, all thanks to Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross.
Below are three of my personal favorite ways (besides the Bible) to rehearse the Gospel to myself daily. I pray they bless you this Easter weekend.
- The Gospel Primer by Milton Vincent (Book)
- Sunday is Coming by Phil Whickham (Song)
- What’s So Good About Good Friday? By Passion (Video)
