High School 10.31.2025

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

We have begun planning our Veterans Day assembly, and we want to give you some information about this wonderful tradition here at GCS. We have many employees on our campus who have either served or have family members who serve our country. I myself have 13 family members across 5 different branches who have chosen to serve others with their lives. It is an honor to watch them serve our country with love and with pride. Our Veterans Assembly this year will be on Wednesday, November 12th, in the gym. There are multiple ways to participate and get involved.

Ways to Honor Our Veterans: During our programming, Veterans will be honored in three ways: 1. Parade of Heroes, 2. Wall of Honor, & 3. Time of Honor during the assembly. Any Veteran within our GCS community (regardless of whether they are attending the assembly or not) can be featured on our Wall of Honor as well as during our Time of Honor in the assembly.

  • Parade of Heroes: Honoring Service Past and Present: New this year, we are asking Veterans to be escorted in by their GCS connection (student, staff member, etc.). Veterans and students will meet in Legacy Hall at 9:00am for instructions and enter into the assembly via the Parade of Heroes at 9:25am. In addition, we invite families to honor Veterans who have passed. A student/staff member may carry a framed photo of their loved one, walk in the parade, and bring the picture to the stage so their legacy is remembered during this special moment. All students walking in the parade should meet in Legacy Hall at 9:00am. Staff walking in the parade should meet in Legacy Hall at 9:15am. RSVP is needed for both aspects of the parade (in person or frame). RSVP below.
  • Wall of Honor: At the front desk, there will be star cutouts, starting the week we come back from the break. Please take one star for each Veteran you wish to honor. On the star, please include the name of the Veteran, branch of service, and anything else you wish. Stars need to be returned to the front desk by Friday, November 1st.
  • Time of Honor During: During the assembly, we will have a Time of Honor, where we will recognize the Veterans in our community. You can recognize Veterans below.

Reception & Assembly: Any and all Veterans within the GCS community (alumni, grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) are invited to a school-wide assembly & reception on Wednesday, November 12th. We will have recruiters on site as well!

  • Assembly: Doors will open for family seating at 9:00am. At this time, families can go in and reserve seating for their family, Veteran, and GCS connection. Students will join at 9:15am, the assembly will begin at 9:20am, and the Parade of Heroes will begin at 9:25am. RSVP below. Veterans & students walking in the parade should meet in Legacy Hall at 9:00am.
  • Reception: The reception, featuring coffee & treats, is for any Veteran in attendance as well as their family. This will immediately follow the assembly and be held in the gym. RSVP below.

Action Items & Help Needed:

  • You’re Invited: If you are/have a Veteran in the GCS community, we would be honored for you to attend the assembly, parade, & reception. Please RSVP here.
  • Wall of Honor: If you have a Veteran you want featured in the Wall of Honor, please pick up a star at the front desk and return the star by Friday, November 1st.
  • Dress Code: We are asking all staff, students, and families to wear Red, White, and/or Blue to the assembly. Veterans in attendance, we would love for you to wear your uniform if you still have it!

Lastly, please join us in praying for our Veterans as well as current members of the military serving our country. We look forward to honoring our Veterans!

Our goal is for every visiting student to catch a vision of life as a GCHS Knight. The focus of the assembly will be to celebrate sports and extracurricular offerings at the high school. We want them to see what makes this place special: our Christ-centered community, our commitment to excellence, and the vibrant life that happens here every day.
